HOW DOES RAT BLITZ WORK?

RAT BLITZ contains 0.025% w/w 3- Acetonybenzyl-4- Hydroxy-

coumarin, and works by preventing the blood from coagulating and

at the same time damaging the walls of the rats’ blood vessels.

Over a period of approx 5 days, the effect of eating RAT BLITZ

is to allow the blood to escape into body cavities and muscles

or flow out of the body.

RAT BLITZ does not kill instantly and thus has the major advantage of the symptoms of poisoning do not appear suddenly - which alerts other rats in the nest-and death usually follows in 5-7 days after feeding commences.

For this reason rats and mice do not develop “bait shyness” and continue to eat RAT BLITZ even though they are slowly dying. This allows the complete nest to be wiped out not just single rats

WHY IS RAT BLITZ A BETTER BAIT FOR FARM USE?

Because unlike other popular baits IT DOES NOT CONTAIN GRAIN.

There’s not much point in using grain based bait in areas where

there is already plenty of grain or other food attractive to

rats and mice. The unique formula of RAT BLITZ is simply the

most delicious smelling, scrumptious food rats & mice have

ever had and they love it even when they have plenty of

other choices.

WHY DID RCI DEVELOP RAT BLITZ

Out of sheer necessity!!! Some years ago we purchased a poultry farm for experimental purposes to help us develop our extensive range of veterinary products. (See about us) When we bought the farm it had been out of action for more than a year and was badly overrun with weeds, vermin and BIG RATS. All the sheds were pitted with rat holes and you couldn’t move anywhere without seeing rats. They were huge and unafraid of humans. We tried all the conventional baits, we even used rat shot to shoot them but they kept coming back. So our boffins put on their thinking caps on and after much experimentation RAT BLITZ was born. And we rid our farm of rats forever!

HOW ARE EFFECTIVE BAITS PREPARED?

Let’s start with what not to do:

Do not put bait out in big piles. Most people pile a heap of bait

on a tray and hope the rats will see and eat it. The first few

will and while they are eating it they will also be urinating and

defecating on it spoiling the bait for other rats. In their own

environment rats are fussy and will not eat soiled baits.

Do not handle the bait. Rats are put off by the smell of

humans.

Do not use old baits. Fresh baits are much more attractive than

old baits. We recommend baits be changed daily.

Now this is what we did on our farm and it works every

time:

Wrap small quantities of bait (no more than a tablespoon full)

about 30 grammes or 1 ounce in thin paper such as rice paper

or the pages of an old telephone book. Make plenty of these

wrapped baits. The wrapped baits should then be thrown daily

into areas where rats congregate or into rat holes. The paper

baits should be freely distributed on rat trails or anywhere you

see an accumulation of rat droppings.Don’t forget wall cavities

and roof spaces Rats will not foul the bait when you use

this method and all the rats in the nest will eventually

eat the bait.

It’s important the baits are placed out of the way of children’s

prying fingers as well as dogs and other pets and farm birds.

If you are worried about pipe

children and pets put the baits under

sheets of iron or cut some plastic pipe into short lengths of

sufficient diameter to allow a rat in,

but small enough to keep out of sight of children and pets.

Put the baits inside the short lengths of pipe.

Why is RAT BLITZ the bait of choice?

No rat bait will work if the rats don't eat it!

First let’s describe the essential requirements for rat bait

that works on farms, in silos, bunkers, ships’ holds anywhere

where rodents already have an abundant food source.

Here’s a 5 point check list for the ideal rodent bait. It should:

Be fatal in small amounts, and should be capable of wiping

out the whole nest. Not just a few rodents!

The prepared bait should be more attractive to the rats and

mice than grain or other stored feedstuffs available.

The manner of death should not be sudden or violent and

thus arouse suspicion of the surviving rats and mice.

The poison should not be lethal to non-target species such

as humans or domestic animals.

Kill rats and mice slowly, ensuring other rats and mice are

not alerted to the bait.

How does Rat Blitz compare with the 5 point check list?

It:

Is fatal in small amounts.

Is fatally attractive to rats & mice.

Kills rats & mice non-violently and does not arouse suspicion of the surviving rats.

Is not lethal to non-target species such as humans or domestic animals.

Kills rats slowly, ensuring other rats do not become shy of the rat bait.

WHERE BAITS SHOULD BE LAID?

Warning: Pigs are sensitive to the toxic effect of Rat Blitz and care should be taken to ensure that baits are not taken by pigs. Quite small doses taken for a week will be lethal.

Before you start baiting and for best results here’s a 3 step

guide.

First: Defend Your Property

Common sense hygiene methods and the strategic use of

Rat Blitz will ensure losses from rats are kept to a minimum.

The following simple procedures should be used: Ensure

any waste grain or feed is not left lying around silos and

sheds. Remove any leftovers and dispose of the waste away

from buildings and silos.

Make sure long grass does not surround silos, buildings or

machinery. Rodents love man made cover! Ensure old machinery

and scrap metal such as piping etc. is stored well away from

silos and buildings Food and Water. The less food and water

there is available to the rodents the more attractive

the bait. So clean up and get rid of all the rubbish first.

Second: Look for nesting sites and clean them up.

Typically they will be found:

in dark corners,

in and under feed bags,

in boxes, newspapers and other materials

in wall cavities

in roof spaces

in harvesting equipment augurs and other loading equipment

Third: Look for rat trails or rat dung and put fresh

baits on the trail or in rat holes under eaves (don’t forget

high places because the black or roof rat has a habit

of living in high places) Wall cavities, silos, farm machinery

are all favorite places. Spread plenty of fresh baits daily and

keep doing so until the baits are no longer touched.

Rat Blitz works when other rat baits won't

WARNING

Rat Blitz bait is highly attractive and, for this reason, care should always be exercised where there are children and domestic animals.

First read our tips about baiting. Do not leave bait out in large piles; put it in small wrapped parcels. Then put the wrapped baits in places children and domestic animals cannot reach. Dogs and cats have to eat large quantities of the bait to be affected (if you are worried call a veterinarian). Normally it is not a worry.

However the possibility of secondary poisoning from eating the dead rats should not be overlooked. Always dispose of any dead rodents as soon as you find them.

Pigs are sensitive to the toxic effect of Rat Blitz and care should be taken to ensure that baits are not taken by pigs. Quite small doses taken for a week will be lethal.

If you suspect poisoning of humans:

SAFETY DIRECTIONS Poisonous if swallowed. Do not inhale dust. Do not touch the bait. Use scoop or measure.

If on skin and after each baiting, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Wash hands after use.

FIRST AID If poisoning occurs get to a doctor or hospital quickly. (Phone: 131126)

Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) is antidotal.

HOW TO IDENTIFY RATS

Brown or Sewer Rats

Is usually found in cities,coastal ports and waterways

where it frequents shops,dwellings,refuse dumps,hotels,

warehouses. It is a reasonably good climber, but prefers

sub floor areas such as drains and around houses.

Black or Roof Rats

Inhabits houses and fields. It has a habit of living in

high places, such as silos and warehouses.

Field or House Mice

These two are really one and the same species.

They live anywhere they can find protection within easy

range of food.

RATBLITZ is recommended for the control of both rats and mice in all farms. Its attractiveness and effectiveness has been proven by years of application in the poultry and pig industries where abundant alternative foodstuff is available.
